I thought that it was sad that Brom died and that he was so loyal to Eragon. Also through out the book Brom and Eragon became more and more connected. When they first started their quest Eragon was not so sure to trust Brom and let him go with them. But in the end Eragon trusted him and was very sad that he died. But I think his death will become good for Eragon so he can learn how to survive on his own.
I think the Elf he rescued from the Urgals is the "great romance" the herbalist told him he would have when she told him his future.
I think your right about the elf... I didnt even connect the herbalist to this. Broms death will be good and bad for eragon, because brom was his guide to some faraway place that nobody knows where it is... Also i think that eragon wont make it far at all if Murtagh leaves, its kind of as if Murtagh comes and replaces brom.
